How a referral moves

Three steps, and you’ll know
where it stands after each one.

Most referrals we receive are made by phone, because one conversation usually settles questions that a form can’t.

1

Same call

You describe the situation

Substances involved, mental health history, where they are right now, and what their schedule allows. We’ll say on that call whether we’re the right level of care.

2

Usually same day

We verify benefits

We run the insurance and come back to you with what’s covered and what isn’t, in plain numbers, before anyone is asked to commit to anything.

3

Often within 24–48 hours

We coordinate the arrival

Intake time, what to bring, and transport if they need it. With a release of information on file, you hear from us that they arrived.

Call and describe the situation — that conversation is free and carries no obligation for you or the person you’re calling about.

Before you call

Five things that move a referral fastest

None of these are required to start a conversation. Having them on hand shortens the time between your call and their intake.

  1. Insurance card, front and backA photo is fine. Member ID and group number are the two fields we need.
  2. The best number to reach them, and a good timeIf they work nights or rotating shifts, tell us — we’ll call when they’re awake.
  3. Current medications and any recent hospital staysThis determines the level of care and how quickly we can bring someone in.
  4. Any pending legal or work obligationsCourt dates, leave paperwork, licensing boards. We can usually work around them if we know early.
  5. Their permission for us to talk with youA signed release lets us keep you updated. Without one, we can confirm nothing back to you.

Please share clinical details by phone rather than email. Send us the basics and we’ll call you back for the rest.

Levels of care

Where your referral would land

One network, five programs across six locations, plus virtual care nationwide. You call one number regardless of which one fits — we place the person, you don’t have to figure out the org chart.

Admission criteria

Who we can admit — and who we can’t

We’d rather tell you no in two minutes than have someone arrive and be turned away. If a case sits near a line below, call and describe it.

We can admit

  • Adults 18 and older
  • Substance use, including alcohol, opioids, stimulants, benzodiazepines and prescription medications
  • Co-occurring mental health conditions alongside substance use
  • People who can participate in group programming and daily activity
  • People arriving from a hospital, an emergency department, or another program

We would refer out

  • Anyone under 18
  • Anyone needing inpatient medical or psychiatric hospitalization
  • Active psychosis or an acute psychiatric emergency
  • Medical needs beyond what a residential setting can support safely
  • Anyone who needs a hospital-level detox rather than clinically managed withdrawal

Borderline case?

If we can’t take someone, we’ll say so and point you toward a program that can. You keep the relationship with your client either way.

What we handle for you

The logistics that usually
fall on the referrer

Getting them here

The trip from where they are to where they’re going is the step most referrals die on. For people being admitted to one of our programs, we can arrange accompanied transport, including from a hospital or an airport. This is part of an admission, not a standalone service we sell.

Benefit verification

We run the insurance and give you the coverage picture in writing, so nobody finds out mid-stay what wasn’t covered.

Family support

Families get their own point of contact. When a spouse, parent, or adult child needs support of their own, we can direct them to it.

Updates back to you

With a release on file, we confirm arrival, flag changes in level of care, and give you notice before discharge so aftercare can be lined up.
